I’m not knocking you BJ, I know as well as you the difficulties that existed 10+ years ago with regards to quality video and audio in porn clips. It was prohibitive when space was more of an issue, plus the difficulty in getting all the right cords connected when transferring from VHS to digital, etc.

The picture quality here is decent, but the audio is like some of the copies I have of older films, where everything sounds mono and hard for me to hear as well. Still I was able to make out some of the music, and I have a question / theory about this …

Do you have any idea who that awesomely weird band name was? My theory, as this was another Surge film, is that the “Spider” was the same guy as the artist credited as “Spider & Michael” from the Surge films Therapy (85), Hard Disk Drive (85) and Oversize Load (86). Especially since Century Mining was also from 85, Al very likely used the same people behind the scenes for his films (Mike Davis did the set design in both Century Mining and Hard Disk Drive, possibly some others too).

Maybe someday Dark Entries will put out a Spider & Michael / Spider and his Hollywood Foreskin Ensemble compilation? Or, better yet, the Forbidden Overture music from Turned On and a few other Surge films, which I got from you in excellent quality audio, and added a bit of to that soundcloud channel I told you about. Next time I add more tunes I should see if I can find any decent sounding S&M music (heh heh). Spider & Michael, I mean.

Replying to myself, check these links out. Did you know about this? Did I? I can’t remember, but they are possible leads worth pursuing:

The band name “Red Wedding” sounds vaguely familiar too from some porn movie(s), gah I wish gevi allowed you to search the whole site for other credits than just the actors and directors.

quick note – as I would love to make my comments searchable – the best workaround is this: go to google – type your search term (if its one word, doesn’t need quotes) space, then as follows – so space between “site:” and the website

“jock” site:gayeroticvideoindex.com of course, for “jock” i got over 3000 results, but all from GEVI. when I did “Red Wedding” I only got one result – possibly the only one he’s added that to the credits?

let’s see how it works – see below

“Red Wedding” site:bjland.ws

i think Forbidden Overture WAS from Dark Entries, wasn’t it?

the quality of the sound on this clip was on my end – at the time, I didn’t have a good way of digitizing, and had that awful audio problem, like with FAST IDLE – it wasn’t the tape, but the connection to the computer that was poor.

Sorry for this message BJ, it’s gonna be a long one I can tell. I’m bursting with stuff I can’t remember if I knew before, and it intersects with you and this blog, it’s gonna be all jumbled, ok just get on with it I hear you saying!

Spider & Michael (or Michael & Spider) — Spider passed away a few years ago, Michael successfully fought for survivor benefits from the SSA since they had been a couple for 40+ years, there’s info about that at their website linked above. Interesting but not not directly related to the music.

They were in a band called Red Wedding, and as I finally found searching on my own, and as your workaround on searching comments here confirmed, Red Wedding did the music in the Surge film Strange Places Strange Things. Plus at least one other Surge film, from the M&S website:

“In July of 1984, Red Wedding recorded their song “Swimming” for the “Radio Tokyo Tapes – Volume Two” compilation album, and music soundtracks for two Al Parker gay porn movies.”

Wonder what the other one was??!!

As Spider & Michael, in addition to the films I mentioned above, per gevi they were also credited for music in another Surge film, High Tech (86). So I can assume that right around the time these guys abruptly left the music industry for many years (the site says they had a gap between about 86 and early 00s) they collaborated with Al and Surge using at least two different band names. Well three, if Spider Taylor & The Hollywood Foreskin Ensemble was distinct from Spider & Michael, as well as Red Wedding.

Like, my brain was exploding all over the room, that’s what this almost feels like :D And I had to tell you, not sure what it means but it fascinates me to learn new stuff about old porn movies like this.

I forget where you said you got the super high quality, audio only clips by Forbidden Overture, but I don’t think it was from Dark Entries. Somebody sent them to you, I think? And I downloaded them from here. Turned On side 1 (it was from that cassette) is 29:12 long, Turned On side 2 track 1 is 16:56 and side 2 track 2 is 11:12. It’s a very similar synth beat connecting all the music but a lot of stuff weaves in and out too, you should be able to retrace your steps here at your blog and find them and maybe it will remind you who you got those from.

Finally (!!!) I was looking at gevi pages for Surge movies to see which ones had other credits than just the director, etc. and I landed on the page for Hard Disk Drive:

https://gayeroticvideoindex.com/video/15132

Check out the guy credited as Jake Scott in the first image, look familiar? If I didn’t know better (and I don’t) I’d swear that’s T.N.T. from Good Times Coming and Mechanics! Face, hair and downward curving dick all look almost identical, with maybe just a bit more chest hair in the middle. I may be wrong about this connection, gevi says Jake was apparently from Australia and had a tat on his arm, whereas T.N.T. wasn’t inked, but the resemblance was striking.

I need a fuckin’ nap now lol, thanks for making it through all of this. The summary I guess is that Spider & Michael seem to be the same guys as in the links above, and since Michael is alive maybe his involvement in porn music for Surge could even be confirmed by an email or facebook (which I’m not on) or something. And somewhere here on your blog you have (or had) the links to that awesome Forbidden Overture music too.

OK – YOU need a nap??!!! I just read that and still can’t keep str8 which films they did music for

my notes show SPIDER & MICHAEL for HIGH TECH and OVERSIZE LOAD – maybe that’s what you said already. I have an AL PARKER director page but looking at it, I see my update never got uploaded, which includes some soundtrack info. RED WEDDING for HEAD TRIPS; ok….

Ah so Head Trips must be the second film their website mentioned then, and gevi didn’t include the music credits for that one so I bet that was it. So in summary:

Red Wedding — music for Head Trips (84) and Strange Places Strange Things (85)

Spider & Michael — music for Therapy (85), Hard Disk Drive (85), High Tech (86) and Oversize Load (86)

Spider Taylor & the Hollywood Foreskin Ensemble — music for Century Mining (85)

All Surge films, so I’d assume all directed by Al Parker. And despite three different artist names, the guys behind the music in all of these were Spider Taylor and Michael Ely.

I’m calmer now after my nap, you should try it. Especially when guys like me leave short story length comments on your poor blog. But hey, at least I sytayed on topic as far as this post goes! Well mostly, I strayed in bringing up Forbidden Overture (and TNT for that matter, although if that was him it was a Surge film so quasi-related) anyway sorry again friend.

The Forbidden Overture was from your 2020 post about Turned On, and I think the mp4 files with those three songs are still there within that post. Did you remember the guy who sent those to you? Like I said I don’t think that had to do with Dark Entries but you or one of us thought they could release that like they did with Roy Garrett, Patrick Cowley and other gay porn-adjacent music.
