Amazingly, I can’t remember seeing any of the Sex Files, although I admit to being very tempted. I don’t know why I never got around to it. I certainly saw all of his other projects from around the same era- from Titan Media. I guess I was into Titan for a while there. I think they just didn’t have the Sex Files at my local porn shop. What a mistake.
I feel like these Sex Files were very different from the rest of Titan, in a good way. I should go back and explore them. Joe Gage’s Titan films stood out from other Titan projects as well. They were uniquely his. As unique as you can get with Titan’s tendency towards overly-structured and choreographed scenes and over-production.
I bet there are a couple of themes present in all of his productions from that time. Older and younger men together, and that slow burn tension that you’re all talking about. That’s a Joe Gage signature. He really liked to string it out, sometimes it was beautiful agony, other times I broke down and grabbed the remote. Once or twice, I’m like, you’re killing me here! An all-time favorite director of mine, so it’s sweet torture. His style is what sets him apart.
