Joe Tiffenbach

I know very little about director Joe Tiffenbach (for example, he was a model well before he directed); but this gives me an excusse to send you folks to another porn writer/observer over at Demystifying Gay Porn – who has been around for years, and is on several platforms like youtube, substack, spotify… I can’t keep up. Check it out, but come back here (home!)

Oh, I have to give GEVI a good deal of credit for having a nice chunk of info on their Tiffenbach director’s page (link above) so check that out, too. The gap in directing films (1972-1983) seems to have been filled with still photography work for many magazines, apparently not always credited.

oh, so I do see Joe mentioned a few times on BJland – here – probably as photographer; and I kinda wish I had kept my copy of Tub Studs (I had the big box version, but sold it in 2003) – hairy Dwan seems to have been at least 4 of the seven scenes.

OK OK – so his mid-80’s work at Driveshaft Video – including such titles as Tub Studs, Poker Studs, Voyeur and Wrestling Studs took up 2 afternoons looking for which I used to own, and wait, Wrestling Studs loking more familiar than I…. different post!

One reply on “Joe Tiffenbach”

I love photographers and directors who started out as models/performers themselves! (Except for maybe Michael Lucas- but I don’t really know)

I know more about Joe Tiffenbach as a model and photographer than I do of him as a director. I have a few of his photographs (of him) done by Bruce of LA and Dave Martin from the 50s. I know he started photographing his own models in the ’60s. I don’t know much outside of what is in his biography. I can’t believe it, but I am only familiar with a few of his films, such as Bathhouse Fantasies. I didn’t know he was responsible for Bullet volume 10 & 11 which seemed to have not much to do with rest of the series (and frankly were not as good IMO) #10 was OK. A lot of the Driveshaft stuff looks really good. I don’t know how I missed out on some of this stuff. I sure do want to see more!!

Thanks for re-introducing him to us!
