nice package

Look what came in the mail the other day! Random cut out porn, and (if you remember my Spider Taylor post) more importantly, vintage porno soundtrack music!

For many of you, it just won’t have the same meaning to you as to us old farts who roamed the porno theatres for hours in the (late, for me) 70’s and 80’s – with THIS soundtrack (plus of course grunts, groans, tee-hees, etc) and others music from the films on the big screen. I am soooooooooooooooo enjoying listening to this!

I (again) highly recommend going over to Dark Entries to purchase this LP or CD – or both! Tell ’em BJ sent you! Also available at bandcamp – where you can sample the tunes; but whatever you do, avoid the big behemoths and support the small businesses that treat the artist better (higher percent of sales)

My LP arrived yesterday! Which was a relief, as I made a typo entering my email so I didn’t have any tracking information Thanks for alerting us to this release- so far it’s wonderful. I assume your random porn was a separate delivery, as I only got the card shown on the bottom here.

The discogs listing for the CD copy, which it looks like is what you ordered (very cool!), includes the full promo description put out by Dark Entries:

https://www.discogs.com/release/36230242-Spider-Taylor-Surge-Studio-Music

… including this line: “Surge Studio Music will be available on both LP and CD, the latter of which includes a 20-minute version of “Strange Places…Strange Things!” as a bonus track.” Strange Places in its regular version shows a runtime of 4:33, so is the bonus track one of those hidden after the last song plays? I know the Kylie Minogue Fever CD I bought years ago had two bonus tracks at the end, and the way to get them to play was just to let the last track end and progress through a minute or so of silence, before the first bonus track starts up. If that makes sense.

You need to fix your bandcamp link above though, you left off the first two letters (the S and the P of Spider’s name) and it has the 20 minute version, as does youtube. But I was just curious if both the shorter and longer tracks made it onto the CD, or maybe just the long one instead.

thanks for the tip on the non-working link – fixed now!

the CD has ONLY the long version of “Strange Places…Strange Things!” – interesting to call it a “bonus track” as it leaves out what I assume is a short version (4:33 from your discogs)

so that makes the vinyl 48 minutes, and both the CD and digital download at about 62 minutes?

Thanks for confirming that. What probably happened on discogs is that they used the LP as the template for the primary listing, then just copied all the info over when creating the CD page. I’ve made some edits there and have my entire physical collection saved via that site, which is very handy (though it took a *LONG* time to enter everything in stages, between old records, cassettes and CDs I hung onto). But you’re supposed to have the release sitting in front of you to make changes to existing listings, and I don’t know the exact runtime of the SPST on the CD version so I can’t do it. I’m sure it will get fixed someday.

By the way, somebody tipped me off to a very interesting recent article about Spider & Michael and related porn music from the 80s, in case you might want to read it. Dark Entries features prominently and Josh is quoted a few times, my favorite was this one about the Forbidden Overture music from Turned On: “Man Parrish was like: oh, I think I got $50 and a blowjob,” laughs Cheon. “Which he then spent on drugs.”

Thanks for the link. Great story!
Lots of history and the info on the soundtracks is great!
Who knew?
Glad I do now.

Hi there! Do you know who the blondie with the yellow coat is on the postcard?

Sincerely,

a 27 year old vintage/retro and porn enthousiast from The Netherlands

Weirdly some friends of mine have started writing “AL” when they are referring to Ai.
They do it in all of our group texts.
