OK OK – it took me awhile to figure out why I was posting this clip – and now I remember – another post in the drafts folder is for Pierce Daniels, and I wanted info on his role in Faces – so I of course look at GEVI for the basics, and YorjYefferson for a VintageGayVids review – but the review mentions that only the 60-minute version is available. I check my hardrive to see what I have and – DRATS – it’s also the 60-minute version!!
Grrrrrr! And no no no, I am NOT going into the porn basement to see if that large VHS version which I think I have is still around, and what length is it, and… and digitizing and exhausted just thinking about it!
so I’ve grabbed my saved html files from when I sold this movie on eBay, and my 2002 sale was for the 85 minute version! In 2017 I sold it again, but only 64 minutes – these are notes from that sale:

This video is unusual in that it was filmed in a bar, and “actual bar patrons” sometimes took part, and certainly watched, the activities of the porn stars.
- scene 1: Pierce Daniels and Chris Thompson fool around a bit before they open the bar.
- scene 2: Tico Patterson dances naked on the bar, then another bartender (Ryder) joins in
- scene 3: 2 businessman get a waiter to take a break with them

At some point I thought I found info about the bar Faces that was in L.A., this would have been after I wrote the review. But if so I didn’t add anything about it, and can’t remember what it said. There’s a gay bar with that name in Sacramento but that’s obviously different (and is what dominates the web searches I’m doing today).
The concept is solid, and the live audience aspect gives the scenes a voyeuristic feel. So in that sense it’s at least decent for me. But the choppy editing over the first two scenes, switching back and forth between the bar dancer and the guys fucking on the tabletop Ms. Pacman game were frustrating. Because the background music switched along with the scenes which felt jarring.
I kept wondering why I had a note at the bottom of my primary notes document saying ‘faces / vangelis’ and then I remembered your comments below the review not long ago. I did go back and watch (ok skim, trying to do a few things at once today) the beginning of Faces and that is the *song* Pulstar that plays fof about 90 seconds over the opening credits, right after the safe sex message. But…

It does sound like the Vangelis original in Faces, I was sort of hoping it might have been the Hipnosis which is a great Italo-Disco cover. And the rest of the music is ripe for the picking if anybody recognizes some of it, or runs shazam on it. Like the song that’s heard during the first dancing on the bar parts which is a bit slower but could even also be Vangelis, maybe? Though the Ms. Pacman music is different too which leads to confusion.
When Pierce looked good he was among the better porn actors of his era, but at times he looked kinda scuzzy. Even before he shaved his mustache and bulked up by the very end of the decade and into the 90s, I think it just depended on if the director knew how to make him look as good as possible. He looks great here and in Nightcrawler which may be his masterpiece of a film (I reviewed that one too, not as long ago as Faces):

As for Rex, I liked his look but his performances could be wooden, moreso than his dick which wasn’t always as big and hard as I know he and the audience wanted to see it. He looked good here too, at least to me.
