from a previous post – That HOT Texan Filmmaker –

I love this promo, and the voiceover! from William Higgins, The Boys of Venice (1979)

Was not expecting to hear Rod Stewart in the second half of that preview, I don’t think that song is in the film but it’s another case of using different music for the previews. And that one’s so obvious pretty much anybody could place it: IF ya want my body, AND ya think I’m sexy, COME on sugar let me know…

Great disco cover of A Whiter Shade Of Pale at the beginning and end of the actual film, credited to Munich Machine which was an alias used by Giorgio Moroder.

And seeing that terrific pic of Eric Ryan about to suck Derrick Stanton at the top of this post reminded me of something I just read. I mentioned before that Josh Eliot from Catalina started writing blog posts on the Bijou site, they’re hard to find because their site is so old and clunky but he’s done dozens of them now. And they’re pretty interesting. Anyway earlier this year he did a two-part interview with Derrick where he asked him about some of his scenes, I’ll leave the link at the bottom of this comment but here are a few snips from what he said about Venice:

“I already loved skating at Venice beach. The bathroom scene was actually filmed in the small restroom near the projector room at the Century Theater. It was my idea to keep the skates on … Eric Ryan was a really kind person and had quite the muscular build. His fat cock inside of me felt amazing … Great fun indeed.”

Somehow I knew you’d be the first comment when I heard that Rod Stewart song!

The Derrick Stanton quote is great- I love hearing that behind the scenes stuff.

Thanks Zephyr!

The thing I remember most about “Boys” is the Scott Taylor solo. I was pretty obsessed with him back then. And of course the roller skates scene.

How could I have forgotten about the Clay Russell scene? I’d love to see that again.

I don’t know if it’s better than Kansas City, but a great film. The Venice Beach footage was great too.
