Oh, Jack!
“He was straight … to his wife.” –
A Married Man (1978) – from William Higgins (edited by Steve Scott) – the GEVI link has some interesting info. I just love JACK’s promo performance here. And of course, I am a HUGE Joe Roberts fan.

Wrangler started doing straight porn, then married fading star Margaret Whiting. Who said they had an excellent sex life. Oy.
Whereas in the documentary made just before Jack died (Wrangler: Anatomy Of An Icon) he said that after he married Margaret he gave up having sex with other men, and his sex life became very masturbatory.
I don’t think I’d ever seen that preview clip before, unless you’d posted it here and I just forgot about it. The highlight reel of the sex scenes is great and the reason it was made to be shown in porn cinemas of the time, but the few seconds at the beginning and end with Jack addressing the camera were more interesting to me. That and the use of the instrumental parts from I Feel Love which weren’t looped together very well but give the preview an energetic feel.
(Patrick Cowley made an extended remix of I Feel Love around the time this film was made that was underground for a few years, but what’s heard in the preview isn’t that mix. He added a bunch of synth effects over the non-vocal parts which is what made it so distinctive. This was just a quick edit of the original song from the sounds of it).
What really pissed Jack off was that he considered Smoggy City his song, he both wrote and sang it and when Higgins sold the rights to the film it included that music as well. So Jack wasn’t able to release it himself, at least I think that’s a more even-handed account than what’s mentioned at the gevi page. Both Jack and Steve Scott apparently had quite a bit of ill will towards Higgins that I’m not sure either of them ever got over while they were alive.

Zephyr, I liked the music choice also. I’m so excited I actually have something to say on the subject of music for once! If only to offer my opinion. I like the energy as well. Didn’t know it was from I Feel Love, but I love it. Great catch!
HEY! You got a mention on GEVI. Well done.
BJ, what can you tell me about “Eddie Summer”? So hot,
garsh – nothing more than we see on GEVI – despite being in 3 scenes – let’s dig one up and post later – his only film, Eddie.
So now I really wanna see this, dammit.
The whole thing looks hot, but the scene with Jack Wrangler and Joe Roberts looks really incredible. Reminds me of Jack and Roger.
The whole thing about Jack’s sexuality and life choices- I don’t know what to say. I remember when I first found out about his marriage, I thought it meant he was straight and I lamented. Later I learned more and I can’t fault him for his choices, but there is a cringe factor when I imagine them together. Especially compared to his super hot scenes. Best not to dwell. But I gather that they both got something out of it, if only basic companionship.
