Meet Rick and Stan – in what may be their only pornformance – Sling: A Leather Fantasy – (1974?)
Magazine published in 1979; the source for this video gives the film’s date as 1974; unbeknownst to me, I already had the clip in a compilation called Log Jammin’ – also found in Brentwood’s Breakdown
The music – One Word from Mahavishnu Orchestra (1973) – which gives some credence to the 1974 date (not that you can’t use older music on a newer film, but…)
When I first viewed the clip, I thought somehow they were showing another, non-leather, non-sling couple – but no! The magazine has a handful of non-sling, bed, images like, just like in the film. And its definitely the same sexy stached couple.

Interesting, the copy of Breakdown I watched a while ago used the disco song I Found Love Now That I Found You during their scene:

Maybe they changed the music between it and Log Jammin? Two scenes are in both (this and the Jack Burke one) but the others are different. When I reviewed Breakdown I noticed this scene looked sped up a bit to me, in the version I found anyway.

So I spent my Saturday night perusing late 70s gay-related topics, mostly centered around San Francisco – my journey started with the documentary The Times of Harvey Milk and expanded out from there. I scrolled through various scans of gay papers and mags and landed on this issue of the B.A.R. dated 10 May 1979:

As an aside before I veer back into the porn realm, this issue was printed during the Dan White trials for the deaths of Harvey and mayor Moscone, and just before the White Night riot which was 21 May after the verdict was announced, which was covered in the next issue since B.A.R. was every other week at that time:

Anyway back to porn and this post, at the B.A.R. scan above check out the Porn Corner column starting on page 34: John Kellogg of Cinemattachine. That was a porn cinema in SF at the time, part of a complex including the Adonis bookstore – there’s an ad for it on page 35 along with a pic of John Kellogg on the top left, and the continuation of the column below that. You can zoom way in on pages by using the zoom out / zoom in magnifying glasses at the lower right of the viewer.
Not sure who wrote this column as it isn’t mentioned, usually (but not always) they were done by John Karr. Anyway the pic on page 35 is very helpful, and per the column it lists the following about Kellogg:
– 24 at the time and from the midwest
– co-featured in Falcon’s Ticket Home
– also in Brentwood’s The Big Parade
– three movies for Grand Prix and a fourth in production
– strip and/or j/o show at Cinemattachine
– worked as a bartender at two or more bars, won a jockstrap contest etc.
So I looked these up on gevi, first JK’s performer page:

And all it lists for him are multiple Adonis Cockplay releases but no pics I could find. Then for Ticket Home where I think JK was credited as John Carpenter, and in the two part scene of that name with Luke:

Here is where I get confused (well it’s already a bit confusing) because I don’t know whether the column is referring to the LOOP titled The Big Parade, or possibly Breakdown which also includes the LOOP your post here is about, Sling: A Leather Fantasy (and which you did another post about not long ago):

I can’t quite tell but do you see a resemblance between one of the guys credited as Rick and Stan here, and this guy the B.A.R. names as John Kellogg? Or do you think he was one of the performers in the loop for The Big Parade? And do you think JK = John Carpenter from Ticket Home? And if I ask you another question will you respond with hmfphfffs and harumphs like you did when I said I don’t see the search bar here anymore?
I’d better wrap this up and I hope I’m not causing more confusion just thought you might be able to delve into this and make some sense of it, maybe identify another guy who has limited info known about him as of now. Since that’s become your specialty here, especially with your knowledge of the vintage magazines and all.
oh gosh – (its not harummmmpfff!) – I have to admit to getting a tad lost – are you asking is JOHN CARPENTER, shown on GEVI as performing in Falcon’s Ticket Home one of the two guys in the sling post? nope.
is JOHN CARPENTER and John Kellogg the same person? Quite likely – good catch! Honestly, the Bay Area reporter pages are really hard for me to read – not just the text but the images. (on a sidenote, its a shame so much history was scanned low-res because we just didn’t have the technology, or storage space for big ass files – but I digress). I can add the two pics i have from the TICKET HOME magazine from the Falcon film, that may help you see why I don’t see that face matching either gentleman above (and see if an enlarged pic from BAR on the same page helps)
Big Parade the loop, or the collection (Breakdown) which included it? The former, as I can’t see the collection having been released yet, and if it had, wouldn’t the writer have said Breakdown?
What I do when reading scans on the archive is this: zoom way in on whatever page it is I’m looking at so you can drag the page where you are reading, right click and try to open it in a new tab, and then it’s often extra large size. This is going to be a long url for that issue’s page 35:

After I left all this I think John Kellogg was maybe in the scene Big Parade and not this Sling one. First dancing on the float, then on the stage, then getting busy with the blond guy with the huge dick in the upstairs room. And he does seems like a match with Ticket Home too, though those Adonis Cockplay / Grand Prix mentions are still a mystery. Glad you didn’t mind all my words.
Also the B.A.R. allows you to search text contents and put someone’s name in quotes, I’ll just leave the zoomed in specific pages instead of the links to the full issues this time. From Dec. 4, 1980, he appeared at the same theater “in person and on the screen”; mentions Ticket Home and Big Parade (and yes I think you’re right, Breakdown wouldn’t have been out yet) as well as a specific Grand Prix film, Chance Encounters Are The Best Kind (which was part of Adonis Cockplay 22):

And then his obit from 1995 which has a smaller face pic, and mentions he was a descendant of the famous Kellogg cereal family (so that must have been his real name). No d.o.b. but the 1979 page said he was 24 then so circa 1955 I’d guess:

I think I followed all that Zephyr and boy was it all fascinating! Well done with all of that and connecting John Kellogg to John Carpenter. I agree with BJ, it’s a match. I think that was him in Big Parade and perhaps he just wasn’t credited for Break Down (the collection). But that’s him right on the cover. And definitely him in Ticket Home. Those were so hot. I am less certain about the Cockplay videos, but the scenes are called Grand Prix, so that’s likely him as well.
Talk about a rabbit hole! Zephyr, I’m surprised you didn’t come out on the far side of the planet. Way to go!
Thanks, ‘I knew I shoulda taken that left turn at Albukoykey’. The cast list for Breakdown on gevi is missing a few performers, and seems to have linked Rob Carter to the film somehow. This guy isn’t Rob Carter too is it? I get these bursts of brain energy then it fades and it’s hard for me to jump back into it without feeling overwhelmed, well at least linking Kellogg to Ticket Home and the Adonis film seems like a step in the right direction.
