Let me just say that I didn’t love him, didn’t hate him – the whole “I never did that gay stuff” was obviously annoying, and kinda dumb (we’ve all seen the videos). While Kelvin Blunt’s What Ever Happened to Matt Ramsey? offers a more sympathetic view of North’s denials (“North didn’t create the stigma he was being measured against, yet he was made to carry it by consumers, directors, and the adult industry”) I kinda lean more towards Blunt’s quote from William Higgins – “a very mixed up boy who thought he was absolutely straight and just loved to be fucked. Loved to be fucked. He just insisted to the last second that he was straight – but loved to get fucked.” (I might add he loved to get his ass eaten as well! And while I haven’t seen the documentary Peter (not gonna pay for it!) I don’t expect much from the prospect of “he comes clean on it” if by coming clean we mean he “admits” to actually loving the gay sex, but it’s just a small part of who he is. I’m guessing it’s more – Sure, I did it, I’m a good actor so I made it convincing that I was enjoying it because that was the roll. And that’s fine. I do think Kelvin’s larger point with much of what he writes about – just not about North, is that we place a lot – A LOT – of our “stuff” about porn, gayness, sexuality in general on the specific actors/models and less on ourselves or society. I certainly prefer the stars like Wrangler and Locke who wanted to be GAY porn stars, over the guys who were just trying to make a few bucks – but if I said I didn’t get off (several times over the years) watching the Brian Michaels scene from The Bigger the Better I’d be lying! (In my opinion, Brian Michaels carried that scene – he’s so hot!)
