I am the meat of the night

Christopher Street Blues
directed by: Francis Ellie (1978)
Starring: Lew Seager and Giuseppe Welch, Lee Edwards, Charles Black, Dan Raymond, Roger Schuler, and Mark Hamilton
ugh; each time i go to record/convert a clip, I realize that the sound ALWAYS SUCKS! (and not in a good way); as I am recording, and watching and listening, it looks and sounds fine, but somehow, it gets distorted and by the time I watch the WMV file, the sound is horrible. And I point that out not just to explain why I so rarely do clips anymore (it is, indeed, discouraging to do low quality stuff), but to point out that despite the sound issue, you need to turn the speakers up so you can enjoy this wonderful theme song – don’t know who did it, or what the name is, but it tells us that “Christopher Street, Christopher Street, you find your meat on Christopher Street” – if only it was as true today as it was 35 years ago!

bonus points for transcribing the lyrics, and/or finding out who did the theme song!

edit: – wow – see comments below!

Lew Seager was such a stud (and I might be one of his only fans)! With the Ameros’ interest and connects in New York theater at the time, I often wonder about the identity of the writer and singer of the theme song.

I’m sure I speak for other fans, with or without quality sound, your hot vintage clips are awesome to view! It’s great to see the ‘good old days’ of hot, hairy men! Keep up the great work!! Thank YOU!!

thank you! I just searched my harddrive and had the image with the ad, as you mentioned.

But I think Billy was played by Lee Richards. Alas, I don’t have the tape any longer, but I may have the re-issue Blame It On the Night buried somewhere… Interesting, looking at GEVI, Dan Raymond is in one other film, but no notation in the breakdown by scene where he is in either film

I found a copy of this fim online with decent audio and video quality, and attempted to transcribe the lyrics to the theme song (probably got at least a few words wrong but I tried at least):

I am the meat of the night
the sweet heat meat of the night
doorways hallways any place
rainy days sunny days any days
I am the meat of the niiiiight

Christopher Street, Christopher Street
you find your meat on Christopher Street

I got the screws and booze
those sweaty steamy black and blues
just suck my cock and fuck my ass
evil coke and a ring in my ass (?) (probably not this)
I am the meat of the niiiiight

Christopher street, Christopher street
you find your meat on Christopher Street

anyway I know it is where I am
everyday anyway is how I am
I am the memories of instant love
those thoughts and dreams and hopes of love
I am the meat of the niiiiight

Christopher Street, Christopher Street
you find your meat on Christopher Street

Christopher Street, Christopher Street
you fiiiiiind your meat
on Chriiiiiiii-iiiiiiiiiistopher Streeeeeeeeeeeeeet

The version of the theme that plays towards the beginning (after Billy and the three business men change clothes and leave for the weekend) is easier to hear than what plays at the very end. The movie’s not bad actually, somewhat corny but entertaining and most of the sex is good.

The ad above is interesting, as you said Dan Raymond is credited for the theme and supposedly in the film, but unless he was in the bar (the pretty hot bartender who wasn’t in any of the sex scenes or one of the guys banging on the door to the john maybe?) I don’t know who he was. Speaking of the bartender here are his introductory poems for each of the executives when they walk in:

Ah Mr. Perry —
he likes to eat shitballs and shower in piss
he sucks off his great dane but he don’t like to kiss
he claims he’s a sadist I know otherwise
I whipped him like crazy and gave him two blackened eyes

Ah Mr. Barton —
he loves to bust balls and he never does tip
what I’d like to give him is a big fat lip
he says he has money and lives like a king
but he’s so poor I hear he just hocked his last ring

Ah Mr. Hamilton —
on the Upper East Side he never dresses like this
he wears outfits that match never knowing they miss
he thinks that he’s witty but he’s plum out of luck
cuz he’s duller than batshit and a real lousy fuck

And because I think I’m channeling your studly friend Obsessed with the length of this message (forgive me BJ for I have sinned, so many, many times lol) I’m also going to give you the song ID’s for each of the oldies that play on the jukebox at Danny’s Bar, and the approximate minute when you hear it, depending on when the version of the film you’re watching starts:

* Dancing In The Street / Martha & the Vandellas (10)
* Sweet Talkin’ Guy / The Chiffons (11)
* Be My Baby / The Ronettes (28)
* 1-2-3 / Len Barry (30)
* Turn Me Loose / Fabian (40)
* I Want You, I Need You, I Love You / Elvis (45)

Did a review of this one on reddit very recently, many words as usual but since you offered up some blog bonus points way back in 2011 for the theme song lyrics I wanted to collect them :) BJ bonus points are pretty rare and extremely valuable y’all, get ’em while you can! Peace buddy.

well, this is AMAZING – thank you – will have to add the “music in porno tag”
for folks looking for a link to your – reddit review

i haven’t been on reddit in ages, and summer is keeping me non-porno-crazed busy…. but I’ll be back

That’s cool, I didn’t want to pester you about it because of how many inactive links I dropped on your blog so often last year (sorry about the mess of those) from my now-dead yt channel. I like typing a lot so this part of reddit fits now that I can do these, and it’s been fun to rewatch a lot of the films and then type whatever springs to mind. I’m a wordy guy, in case you never noticed ;p and besides, nobody else can post there right now so it’s not littered with other people spamming or mass posting whatever they feel like. Makes it more organized, not unlike your blog here which I like.

If somebody else wants to listen to the theme and correct the lines I surely got wrong (especially “evil coke…” that can’t be right but it was all I could make out) the clip in my review has better audio than your link above. You’ve come a long way baby in the quality of your clips, especialy from the early days of your 1.0 blog when a short two minute clip might take all day to up- or down-load.
