bookstore!

I’ve long suspected that our JohnnyLlama works in a bookstore!

enjoy this clip of Johnny at work –

OK OK, from Heavy Equipment (1977); director: Lancer Brooks; – cast: Jack Wrangler, Roger, Chris Adams, Chris & Tim ; non-sex roles: Steve Tracy (Chester, the clerk), Adam Neumar (boss), Jennifer Cashoty (lady customer), and David Warfield (old man)

music: Roys Ayers Exotic Dance, and that gosh darn muzak/jazzy Working On The Railroad

note the lack of Kurt Williams name in the ad! CUZ he ain’t in the film (and least not a sex role) oh, and see me below cleaning the house trying to find my VHS copy of this film. Then, of course, taking a break with Mr. Wrangler

Seriously, it took a week to find the video – and – see below – my desk, the one I am sitting at as I type, and where I compose 95% of my posts… look on the bottom shelf… what the? Anyway, appears that I do have a version that has the sound properly synced – so maybe a future post?

Heavy Equipment review

Mr. Gay Nude – where are you?

those early DVD releases of vintage porn were quite awful – I sold that one, and it came in at 65 minutes, missing 10-15 minutes! I guess they took a B/W pic and tried to colorize it?? Jack’s looks a bit more acceptable

The saying I remember one of my grandparents repeating when I was a kid, ‘if it was a snake it would have bit ya!’ So was this a later DVD version you found, or the original VHS that came with the 3-D glasses? Because the clip was synched up fine, and with pretty clear picture quality.

As for the clip, it’s interesting in terms of the plot of the film, but aside from Roger looking good in his tank top and jeans, also completely non-sexual. Which is fine, the film has a decent plot, acting and story to it and this shows off some of the supporting characters who don’t get naked. Maybe if you ever revisit this and post something else you might pick the flying jockstrap, the dick hovering above Chester right after he turns into Jack, or even Al’s cumshot that you screen capped as the top image, that made all three of them crack up in the last sex scene.

I found hundreds of hits on discogs for versions of I’ve Been Workin’ On The Raidroad, unless someone finds a match using one of those apps that might be a needle in a haystack to find the exact one used. Here’s one of many examples I found on a quick search:

If I ever find it I’ll let you know. Thanks for linking to my review, and for the speculation about our friend Johnny L., now I have something to picture when he leaves his comments. Maybe it’s an adult bookstore, which would explain how he knows so much about the old mags and stars! ;)

It is not an adult bookstore, but I wouldn’t turn down that job!

Also, it might as well have been, based on the number if times you catch someone jerking off in the store. What the eff!

I had a friend who worked in a library years ago, he told some similar stories. At an adult bookstore you might expect that kind of thing to happen, though for the regular kind it’s more on the creepy side. Well, I guess part of that depends on how hot the guy is… Now that I think about it you may have mentioned working with books in one of your previous comments, though for those of us who comment a lot like you, me, steel city, obsessed or parisian, and without being able to search the comments left here, I tend to forget more than I remember.

I was on retro studs skimming through his big list of tags on the side of the screen, and stopped when I saw this name. Was this the inspiration for your user name here, or maybe you in a previous life?

https://retrostuds.blogspot.com/2018/12/johnny-llama.html

Sorry if I asked you this before, and you know I’m just teasing, or I hope you do. But now I have something *else* to picture when I see your name around here!

Definitely not me, although that is my comment of course. And I appreciate the compliment!

When I was a teenager I wanted to change my name to the most outrageous thing I could think of and Johnny Llama was part of it. Needless to say, my parents vetoed that, but the nickname stuck.

I don’t even think “Buck Naked” got that name right for the model either. I have no idea how he came up with that. I’ve never seen that model with that name attached anywhere else.

LOL! How did you figure that out? You are absolutely correct. For 5 seconds I thought you actually did have video of me! Ha Ha!

Also, that clip is a remarkably accurate representation of what it’s like. Me hating the general manager; me sneaking peaks at books with naked men; me tripping over my tongue when taking a special order from a hot guy; me dying a little inside when he leaves and that woman comes in; me trying not to kill her.

Great post BJ! You’re a naughty man.

I hate to use the term “original” – as the box says copyright 1984 Advocate video – but the lightweight actual video cassette, once you hit “play” it shows French Connection / Cream of the Crop – who reissued a lot of vintage porn, but usually poor quality – so this purchase was a pleasant surprise – and yes – TWO 3D glasses in the box!

And yes, I plan to post more from this film, but did post the jockstrap / gym scene back in this 2007 post – Heavy Equipment

Railroad song – tried the apps, no results!

I can’t think of how you could share the 3-D experience with your readers aside from inviting each of us over to sit on your couch and watch the movie with the extra pair of glasses, and that seems a bit impractical. Still, glad you found it. And as for the artist on the railroad song, the search continues, all the live long day ;)

(Hope these links work!)

BJ honey, I’m convinced more than ever, that we connect by psychic energy! : 0

Boy, this post got crowded fast! : )

You have quite a few posts about “Heavy Equipment (1977)”. I was going to bring this topic up in some earlier posts, but I might as well do it here. It’s more appropriate, since you provided an excellent clip! Thanks! : )

I only discovered this relatively recently. I can’t say I regularly watched “Little House on the Prairie (1974-1982)”. So I had no idea. Did you, or any of your readers? : |

The nerdy store clerk named “Chester” in “Heavy Equipment”; was a mainstream actor by the name of Steve Tracy. He actually used his professional name – no alias! He died from A.I.D.S. in 1986, at the age of 34.

He had a recurring role (1980-1981) as Percival Dalton on “LHOTP”. He played the foe, friend, suitor, and then eventually husband, of the spoiled brat character, Nellie Olson, portrayed by Alison Arngrim.

Both Alison and Steve were dear friends. For a while, she was the only colleague of his, who knew he was gay. After his death, she became a dedicated A.I.D.S. activist! : D

Wow! Steve Tracy was also in a straight, soft-core porn comedy, “Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens (1979)”! It was directed by the infamous, Russ Meyer, and written by him and film critic, Roger Ebert! Mercy! : 0

I have wonderful memories of viewing “H.E.”, sometime during the mid-‘80s! I had the privilege of seeing it in a movie revival house, as opposed to an actual porn theater! It was at the Nuart Theater, located on Santa Monica Blvd.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuart_Theatre

The atmosphere is so much more fun and festive, than in a sober, porn house! Imagine a theater filled with queers! Many would make catcalls, bitchy remarks, and laugh their asses off! : )

This was one of my earliest recognitions, that queers were inherently sophisticated and cultured! Most queers are film buffs, like me!

In “H.E.”, when Jennifer Cashoty (obnoxious lady customer) makes her comic entrance, a patron yelled out, “She’s like Sylvia Miles’ sister!” – Astute observation! You wouldn’t get that movie reference in a straight theater! : )

I was disappointed that Tom DeSimone, was so dismissive of this film. Evidently, it was quite difficult to film in 3-D, he said in a ManShots interview. : /

For the record, only certain sequences are in 3-D. You get instructions to put on your glasses, when a lightning bolt appears and rumbles, on the movie screen.

The audience would crack up every time! “Here we go again!”

It’s very funny when flying cocks and jockstraps, seem to come right at you – “Duck!”

So BJ, did you ever see a porn film with a crowded audience? It’s so much fun!

I only wish your readers, had the same experience that I did! : )

; )

“The atmosphere is so much more fun and festive” – I get that, and can appreciate it, BUT BUT BUT – I miss the “right” way of watching porn, in an actual porn theater, with other men who want to have sex, or at least let off some steam and whack off in the seats. Seeing a film many years later, in an art house, can be fun, and I know a lot of my writing is about the fun, silly, odd in our vintage films and magazines, but there seems to be a lot of “study” of vintage gay male film which is sooooooooooooooooo often out of context – that context being, up until maybe 1982, or later for others without the means for home video, a porn theater where the film was the mood setter, the background, the thing between trysts, the aphrodisiac to get you in the mood to get up, go BEHIND the screen and see who was there, what was going on, and how to join in. There is SO little of THAT discussion – too much “film criticism” and not enough sex appreciation.

off the soap box (for now)
