SLATER4U

“An in-tight, inside, insightful interview with bad-bay genius J.D. Slater by Clayton Winfield”; originally published in Drummer 152 (1991)

I will admit to not yet reading the interview in its entirety; but I pulled it out of the drafts folder in order to have a post go up. There’s some here about J.D.’s directing.

Speaking of, Hard was his directorial debut. That movie also had a theme song by J.D., and was another of the many movies cut down from its original length (87 minutes) to a shorter version (72 minutes) in subsequent releases by HIS video.

i really wonder if Locke is in the original video (and no, i haven’t seen it) The initial reviews in Drummer and Manshots don’t mention Locke – but a subsequent re-release has his name on the cover, as well as “director’s cut” with additional footage.”

it was some company or website called SPUNK, or SCUM, or something like that….

In addition to all their original productions, Spunk Video did a bunch of re-releases in the ’90s & ’10s, mostly Christopher Rage stuff I thought. I even remember buying one or two of them. It is still available as an online store. You can stream/rent/etc anything they carry. Including some Rage/Live Video stuff like Wildside, Best of the Superstars, maybe others. But you have to know what you’re looking for to find it. And you may not find it anyway. I couldn’t find “Guilty” or “Motor Sexual” there. I couldn’t find Outrage or My Masters. It’s not what it once was.

I loved this article. Thanks!

I’ve seen references elsewhere to HIS Video’s habit of chopping footage–sometime large amounts of footage–from films they reissued. My question is, why? Granted, I’ve sat through films/videos that would have benefited from being shorter, but I’d still rather see the whole thing intact.
