Mr. Southern California Drummer 1983

Trying to “verify” our guess about Dan Gillen (one of the actor/models in JOBSITE) being the same person as Shawn Killen (the print model) – back over here: we’ll always remember you as DAN I found myself even doubting the ID here – after all, there are 3 men, only one named, (and no sash!) – so which of the tree – yes, yes, we can eliminate Val Martin on the left…. But I found the middle guy in Drummer 65 – same pic, cropped so its just him as one of the Mr Drummer 1983 contestants. But I still did some google searches, which brought me some interesting additional info on our friend – but no, not actually proof the Dan and Shawn are the same person! (But certainly Dan Shawn and Mark are!)

“angry because he is an ex-Marine” (no, quote taken out of context – click the link!) – SORRY – anyway, article is called “Marines shun homosexual toys for tots” – the important thing is the JOB SITE bar is/was real! and who was the manager??

“Mark Siefker, manager of the North Hollywood bar called Job Site,”

article also ran in the Gay Community News

and check out Mark’s shirt in Drummer 66!! Who’s gonna make me one??

I like this pic of Val Martin (by David Sparrow) – this may sound odd, but we don’t often get a straight on good look at his cock like this one.

drummer 87 (ish)

I was finally getting around to scanning Drummer 87 – or, at least, the cover and pics of cover model Mickey Squires – but as I’ve flipping through after scanning the cover, table of contents, some interesting erotic drawings, I realize – nooooooooooooooooooooooo! There’s no feature on Mr. Squires!! Jeesuz! There is a single image, from a 7-page leather store ad, that I almost overlooked, but he’s wearing a leather mask (which isn’t bad) but his face is kinda blocked by the text of the ad (but we do get to see those balls!). Maybe another time I’ll try to figure my way around the text thing.

Meanwhile, all is not lost, as I am always looking for those hard to find pics of Max Montoya, and we get one from the movie Modern Men (Max above, “orgy scene” shot below – gosh, that orgy scene is nearly 30 minutes, but I digress)

See below for the cover that got me all excited – Mickey in cop gear! Apparently from the 1985 movie The Joys of Self Abuse. I dunno, should I try to find Mickey’s scene from that?

Jim Wigler

Director: Jim Wigler

who you may remember from such films as:

  • Folsom Street Sex (1990)
  • Manrites (1994)
  • Sex in Dangerous Places (1994)
  • Shop Sex (1994)
  • Man to Man (1995)
  • Copsucker (1996)
  • Red Dog Saloon (1997)
  • Uniforms M4M (1998)

(another post languishing in “drafts” folder – there’s a lot more to Wigler’s career than this post, of course, but if I wait any longer, it will be 3 more years and no discernible difference!)

I will readily acknowledge that I did not know he directed porno flicks, even though I know quite well I’ve enjoyed Copsucker (the title alone, plus Donnie Russo – I mean, c’mon!) Anyway, I was familiar with him as an excellent photographer, and now that I am trying to be better about researching and acknowledging who created the sexy photos I like to post, that’s when I discovered his work as a director. Most of what pops up when I search my own hard drive for “Wigler” is going to be Drummer magazines I’ve sold over the years (and some Bear-related zines as well); plus some videotapes where he played a different role than director, like Dildo Boot Pigs, (how can you not love that title) where he handled videography, editing, and score! Oh, and 90’s HONCHO magazines… and… you can see why stuff gets tuck in drafts – always more research.

Charley, a living Christmas tree

from the comment section, ZEPHYR points us to the Leather Archives & Museum page on VIMEO – and the above video with an Xmas theme. Thanks, buddy!

I’m super happy to see another resource, and love when folks use alternate spots (I LOATHE UTUBE) to do this – apparently, Leather Archives has been there for 11+ years! “As VHS video tapes reach the end of their life, we are working hard to digitize all 1,000 tapes in the collections of the Leather Archives & Museum. This clip is an example of the videos we have in our collection and a representation of what we are trying to save for future generations.”

I had this issue of Drummer, but like many periodicals, it got sold off in the great purge of 2017 – and I only saved 4 or 5 images from that issue, and now realize there were more pics of Charley (Charley goes leather !) – which I did not scan! Anyone got issue #89 in digital format?

Not to jinx them – but if you’ve every scrolled through my archives 10+ years back, more links tend to be broken the further back you go, so for videos especially, I prefer to host my own – but use the link above, bookmark, and make comments to encourage them to keep up the good work….. but… just in case…
