Selo Films

I love the graphic for the film Gemini, but I find this ad from/for Selo Films to be kinda strange and/or misleading – doesn’t it make you think Jack Wrangler is in all these films from this production company? But actually he’s only in Gemini (1977) But why not make a post, with all the SELO Films in one place, as kind of a placeholder. I ought to at least try to get a preview video or two, eh? OK – enuf meandering – list of films, a few pics, some videos, ready to… (reserve the right to re-edit after hitting “publish”!) I guess the point is to look at a production company, rather than the too often, mistakenly credited distributor as the maker of vintage gay male porn. God bless Bijou Video for all they’ve preserved over the years, but they are primarily a distributor, and as far as I know, actually only produced a handful of films, perhaps mid 80’s or beyond? That’s another topic, for another day.

Oh man, more great video clips!

I think studio profiles are a great idea. This one is terrific. Good point about Bijou and other distributors.

And many films which we attribute to a certain studio- Falcon studios, for instance- originally were produced by other studios that went out of business or merged. It’s a tangled web!

Thanks BJ!

I agree, if not for Steve Toushin so many loops and films from the true golden age would be lost to time, I firmly believe that. As well as defending the rights of directors to make the films they want (and theatre owners like Steve himself to show them to consenting adults), he’s a legendary figure in gay porn circles.

I’ve attributed Bijou as the company on four of my reviews, and for the first two from the early 70s (Dust Unto Dust and Mickey Finn) I highly doubt his company was involved in actually making it. Rather the original company is unknown and they just bought the rights and distributed the titles later. Mr. Wonderful from 1987 is a maybe, I couldn’t tell who made that after watching it either. But I like to put a company name and the closest year I can figure out in the post titles.

Pretty sure Bijou did actually make and distribute, the 1993 movie Hey Tony! What’s The Story? since the company name appears in the opening credits. And there were more, but as you said almost all from the 80s/90s onwards. The vast majority of what comes up on their gevi company page just includes them for distributing the films, in whole or as parts of their many collections and compilation tapes.

It makes it a challenge when you can’t figure out even the most basic info about companies and directors, let alone actors with multiple aliases. You’re doing the gay lord’s work here my friend :) just for trying to sort as much out as can be sorted.

Also I love that scene with Duff Paxton in the van, he’s been one of my favorites from the 70s for years now. Natural good looks, horny, great dick and butt and with a mischievous glint in his eye, bet he was a lot of fun to spend a night (or a few sweaty hours) with.
