Blues in the Afternoon

Rod Mitchell and Josh Kincaid

sigh.

Blues in the Afternoon (AKA Hit the Deck) (1979) – (mentioned before on BJland – I keep wondering why Target often has 2 names for their films. Perhaps the initial film release has one title, and when they re-released on VHS, along with a magazine, it got the new title? Just a guess. All images, save the 8mm advert just below, are from what I think is a publication called Blues in the Afternoon – or an extensive spread in something else – 25 pages in all, set in Fire Island – gotta be the Belvedere – right? Love the photography – and while my preference might usually by close-ups and medium shots, I enjoy Jon Targets eye for showing these beautiful bodies in the longer shots, with the awesome angles of the pool and deck on black and white. Having said that, my favorite photo of this pair is definitely the last one in this post.

if you want the short version, scroll down, past all this! But don’t watch clip without at least that.

I haven’t been able to convert any of my VHS to digital since I got a new computer nearly a year ago. Alas, hardware/software blahblahblah wasn’t compatible, and, the new computer oddly has less storage space than the old. Long story short, got additional storage, new conversion hardware, and new conversion software (actually 2, one “works” the other doesn’t – yet). So, I figured why not test with that VHS tape I bought inadvertently with a bundle, but led to a question of whether a guy from the corresponding magazine was in it or not (VHS box shows no sign – no image, no name) – and GEVI lists a couple stars who have no corresponding image or other porn work that we can tell. Then the digitizing was a struggle, and the first run was a 16 gigabyte file – not at all sustainable! Especially for a shitty 1985 video, right? But during playback, I realized that it was picking up the music I was listening to (Billy Bragg & Wilco) via the PC, and now it’s on the tape! I put that aside, tried to do a test run without this issue, and then, suddenly, NO SOUND AT ALL! 12 hours of experimenting later, I get to record a rare Chris Burns tape – more on that another time – but I don’t dare listen to music while recording, at least for now.

Where was I – so the surprise wasn’t that Beau Matthews – pictured above and below from the magazine, Wave Riders which promises to show you the “scenes behind the scenes as you view outakes from the Ocean Pacific videotape” ( Wave Riders AKA Hang 10) – wasn’t in the film, but that another fairly familiar guy, was!

As the movie starts, the credits list – Andrew Barrington (AKA Bill Crane), Paul Harris, Rick Kennedy, Teddy Moore, John Black, introducing Marc Fox. Skimming through, there are 6 Scenes. No Beau from what I can tell, but Don Bishop (who you may remember as Skip Wilson via Falcon)!!! He’s paired off in scene 5, and solo (shown above) for the finale.

And then there’s the issue (AKA rabbithole) that I am not, yet, pursuing regarding the production company, Ocean Pacific, which only made just this one movie, and the (somewhat) corresponding magazine. Gotta have something to do with the clothing company, right? So the connection to College Station? Certainly at least Don Bishop – oh, and there’s an ad in the magazine for another magazine, called American Centermen which shows a small pic of Don Bishop – so why wasn’t he credited? And I have a handful of pics from that magazine, with a great photo of Mickey Squires – another rabbithole to go down! (Did I mention there’s a cute pic of Beau in OP shorts?)

oops – I forget to eat. that’s it.

SHORT VERSION – ignore the Beau Matthews pics, here’s a clip of Don Bishop, uncredited, from Hang 10 AKA Wave Riders

Chauffer’s Time

When we last took a gander at Tom Quinn (AKA Tom Hartung), I was unable to find the only film he’s done – Chauffer’s Time (1979) – but just found it this week, and, alas, 5 minutes? Take a look – while it looks like it’s cut off abruptly, the ending is, well, your typical ending.

Right Away, Sir!

Right Away, Sir! (1978) – (BRENTWOOD FILM #700) w/ LT. NELSON (Bob Benson) and Private Yeoman Wolfmeyer (Wolfie)

You can easily tell who I favor in this video, right? But seriously, I’m following the dialogue / set up (3 minutes in all – which is super long for porn) – and the quiet as the “kid” works, Lt. Nelson watches, but then the squeaky chair somehow gives him away! So strip below the waist, it’s hot in here, then, um, put the belt back on, around your shirt waist, then continue working while I .. get more comfortable, and jack off? mmmmm, mkay!

RIGHT AWAY SIR

A SERVANT’S ERROR

recently came upon (heehee) this clip with Clay Russell – I’ve seen the pics for years from a magazine (which, of course, I can now only find this one image, below, after searching for over a week!) – but I am stumped on who made the film, what year, the partner’s name, and – by gosh! under 6 minutes it definitely seems incomplete. I’m certain the stills showed fucking, but this clip doesn’t. Maybe comparing the title font to other 8MM’s???

update: co-star (servant) is Ted Roberts

actual size

The Shaft (AKA Black Velvet, Bill Williams(?)) (1973) – AKA Black Velvet, pt 1 (oral) Black Velvet, pt 2 (anal) – eventually winding up on FVP021 (Falcon Video pac) but originally produced/distributed by um, Brad Chapman / Priapus / The Odyssey Club starring huge Bill Harrison (AKA Ronnie Shark when he directs) and John Traynor (AKA John Coletti when he directs)

Black Velvet – Dubbed the “film of films”. It stars “Big Bill” of Bijou fame and Playgirl discovery John Traynor (whose supporting role is remarkable)! ”

From the music you can tell its the Falcon version – same tune in all those promos/cumming attractions, right? ya gotta give it to Mr. Coletti (heehee!) – being born with a big cock isn’t a major achievement, but knowing what to do with your partner’s humongous schlong, well….. !!

I hope the graphics department got extra credit for the schlong without a body (or balls) imagery!

who you may remember from such films as:

  • Blues in the Afternoon (pts 1 & 2) AKA Hit the Deck (1979) – Bullet Videopac 5 – with Rod Mitchell
  • Teacher’s Pet AKA Master Lesson (1979) – found in Bullet Videopac 9 – with Bruno
  • Against the Rules (1980) found in FVP008 – w/Mac Turner in pt 1; Mac & Eric Nolte in pt 3
  • Three’s Company AKA Coming Attractions (1981) – found in Bullet Videopac 8 – with George Broadway and Rod Mitchell
  • Tad’s Lads ???? – check out link, I don’t think so

I think this is the best place to pause, and read. My god what an ass! Isn’t Kyle lucky! Anyway, 3 loops for Target Studios; 2 include Rod Mitchell (needs its own post). Plus 2 for Falcon – on the same VHS tape ( Against the Rules has 3 parts, Josh is in #1 and #3; pt 1 is a bit disturbing, I have to say, as the “kid/cadet” keeps saying no to “coach”; pt 3, the 3-way, is portrayed as totally consensual). It’s interesting in porno world, you can do a couple of films in 1979/80, but the magazines can go on for years. In this case, I don’t know that any new still photography came out after 1980 – looks like everything was created off the films, and then, by what, 1982/83, with the popularity of home video, magazines reflected “new” VHS releases of films made years earlier, and featured these earlier imagery.

Two Three mysteries – Kyle Hazard and Josh – no film(s)? and stills of Josh and Branch Lester? Don’t think I’ve seen those. 3rd mystery, having pontificated that the stills are all from the film shoots, or about the same time, what about the July 1982 issue of Honcho, photos from FALCON, of Josh poolside? Same shots, or corresponding shots in the 1982 Falcon magazine FALCONERS #4 (promoting FVP008 “videopac” Against the Rules. No such corresponding film, as far as I know!
